Company of Heroes Stats Reset in January
Hooray, stats reset… and yes… PRIZES ![]()
“Please be aware that Relic is resetting user stats and leaderboards in Company of Heroes on Monday, January 8th at 11:00 AM PST.
Patch 1.4 has resolved issues of rank reporting, therefore we would like to give the community a fresh start. Please note that both ranked and basic stats will be cleared on this date. On March 1st, 2007, we will recognize the top three players with prizes. At this time, ranked statistics will be cleared.
We also want to bring to your attention that we there was code added to Patch 1.4 to track drop hacking. Please be aware that this tracks accounts, not profiles, so “smurfing” will not circumvent the tracking. Cheating will not be tolerated in Company of Heroes.
Thank you!
The Relic Team”

will there ever be a way to curb the rampant smurfing in this community available ?

Allie,
This is great news about the stats reset. What exactly do you mean by ‘tracking’ drop hacking? Does it in some way take away from the rank of all of their profiles? The real problemw with smurfing is not really drop hacking, but expert players using new low level profiles to beat up on newbies. People should only be allowed ONE profile per account for ranked play. There is NO reason for anyone to have more then one profile for ranked play! This just leads to experts beating up on newbies, and people having multiple profiles ranked very high on the list.
Please Please, make it so you can only have one profile for ranked games! The community will love you for it. And newbies won’t become disenfranchised when they get beat by much better players (who are smurfing) in ranked games.

jimbo/Mike, we are definitely looking into it and seeing what we can do. I suspect that it’s mostly due to the weird stats tracking that was going on before… after the stats reset I would expect it to ramp down a bit. That being said, we’re still looking into the smurfing issue and seeing what we can do.
Mike, at the moment we can’t discuss how we are tracking drop hacking. Just know that we are. I’m hoping to release an official statement about it in the new year, but as you can expect, it’s not always best to let cheaters know how the anti-cheating system is working

I suggested this during beta, but here goes again:
Create a dropper ’shit list’. People who regularly drop, quit half-way through a game or seemingly have a lot of connection related disconnects should have a black mark added onto their account. Once they hit a certain threshold of dropped games to completed games, they get added to the ’shit list’ and then can only play against other shit listed players.
Once they get above that threshold, they are off the list.
Its a nice solution, simply because it causes bad games only for those who have been causing bad games for other people, rather than outright banning people who may be unfortunate enough to have a legitimate problem for a time. If they manage to fix whatever problem it was, or decide to change their dropping ways then they can play a few honest games and get back into the normal group of honest players.

This is a fantastic game but the smurfing is so rife in the game, it is enough to put off newbies playing as they dont know they are playing expert players and its boring getting your arse handed to you on a plate all the time, I have played about 50 games now and am getting better but sometimes when you want to play someone the same rank or 1 rank above you it is difficult as you get these veteran players who for some reason like to beat up on newbies, what they gain from it i am not sure but please relic find a way that shows your highest rank regardless of profile then we will all know who we are up against.

Hey just wondering if the prizes are to the top 3 players of both the Axis 1v1 Ladder and the Allied 1v1 Ladder or if its the top 3 overall?
Also wondered if you guys at Relic have thought of maybe the Top 25 of each side getting something.. like a goodie bag or a Relic T-Shirt or something like that?

Prizes will be given to the Top 3 players on all ladders. That is, 3 players from each ladder will win something.
