I forgot to mention…
… that I played Homeworld for the first time a couple weeks ago. It was amazing! The story was great and I loved the cutscenes. It was also SO hard. I ended up after every mission with my fleet completely devastated
I need to work on my micro
Here are some pics of my fleet

And thanks to the amazing RelicNews staff who sent me a personalized copy of HW complete with strategy guide and manual!

Wow, does Relic have like a gargantuan vault full of at least 10,000 copies of every game they’ve made along with their respective strat guides?
Wow, I’d pay to walk into that vault.

Homeworld really are a gem.
A rock hard gem with a learning curve steep as a mountain. The controls feels a bit odd with a 3 dimensional space to fly around in, but I had it mastered by mission 10 or so. Unfortunatly the game started to hurl increasingly more frantic battles at me from mission 3 onwards, so from this point I had ample opportunity to repeatedly bang my forhead against the keyboard and hiss various curses whenever my pitiful fleet got obliterated for the n’th time in the same mission.
Watch out for mission 8 (I think it was) - once you have managed to scrunge up a somewhat sizable fleet, the designers decided that it would be really fun to drop your hardearned fleet into a oncoming asteroid field. Mayhem ensues. At that moment you can really feel the love right there.
Ahh, sweet memories…
Do check out Homeworld: Cataclysm as well if you get the opportunity.
Cheers.

The whole homeworld package just worked really well, from the history in the manual to the hand-drawn cutscenes. It really managed to draw me into the story, especially with all the extras, such as the history bits with the old unit viewer.
Plus, I may have cried when I saw Karak burn the first time.

InsolenceAndHeresy, I was shocked and appalled that Relic doesn’t issue a copy of Homeworld to all new hires as an orientation thing.

My God, you people.
I did the tutorial, and it was like, “Lol, this makes so much sense, awesome!” Of course I suck at the game, but that’s because I suck at games in general.
Glad you like it Allie!

Salvage Corvettes are your friends. Build them, and send them after your opponents ships that get separated from the main group. Especially in Missions three and four, capturing the enemy frigates successfully will free up valuable RU’s for later missions. A team of 4 corvettes for Mission three, and at least 8 for Mission four should be enough. A tip on capturing: Save before you attempt a major capture. If you lose too many corvettes, start over.
…That’s just me though…

And now you see why we homeworld fans are crying out for another game. 3D Space Stragegy just doesn’t get any better than the Homeworld Series.
