Company of Heroes Patch 1.6 Out Tomorrow

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Yep, the patch will be out tomorrow, assuming everything goes smoothly with Quazal and the servers.

Some things to remember:

- Please remember that patch notes are never as good as playing the actual patch. Please reserve your judgement until you play the patch.

- All CoH ranks will be reset down to Level 10 tomorrow. All players will be given the point ratings of Level 10s (690). If you are below Level 10, you will not be affected. Wins and losses stats will not be touched.

- Any modifications made to Company of Heroes may result in the inability to patch successfully. Before applying any modifications (mods), we suggest backing up the affected files and replacing them before applying any patch. Not doing so may result in the need to re-install the game.

Patch notes for 1.6 are listed below:

Urgh… remind me not to play floor hockey on Friday, snowboard on both Saturday and Sunday, and then workout all in one weekend when I was supposed to be recovering from a cold. *sniffle* My body’s a total disaster right now!

Anyway, good morning… it’s Monday! A new week… hope you all had a good weekend :)

Go Canucks Go!

Wednesday, April 25th, 2007

Well… you guys know I am a big fan… but there are also big Canucks fans at Relic.

Here are some AWESOME shots done up by artist Shawn Woods, a good friend of mine.

Many of us here are cheering for the Canucks…. and all I have to say is one thing….. BELIEVE!

For those of you in the rest of the world who don’t know what I am talking about, check out this link: http://www.canucks.com

GO CANUCKS GO!

It’s Friday!

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Hooray, it’s Friday. At least that’s something to cheer about. Sorry for the pessimism.. it’s just that the Canucks had a change to win the series last night but lost, and now we are going back to Dallas for Game 6. I’m a little disheartened but I still believe we can do it. Don’t worry, you can’t discourage this fan for long!

Friday’s have gotten even more fun at Relic. Aside from donuts on Friday mornings, the Relic Cultural Committee has created something called “Game On.” So at the end of the day for a little bit, we give out some drinks and snacks and the employees get together and play 360/PS3/Wii/pool/foosball etc… it is pretty fun. Recently there has been a big Guitar Hero craze. I’ll post some pictures from our Game On session last week.

Word from Gamespy

Monday, April 16th, 2007

Here we go!

“Earlier in April, another customer of the ISP hosting GameSpy’s middleware backend services such as the ones used by Relic’s Warhammer 40,000 RTS franchise was under several rounds of denial of service attacks spread over about 10 days. While combatting this attack, over this period, some parts of the world had intermittent connectivity to the GameSpy backend. As of 4/8/07, a routing change was made to resolve the problem until more permanent solutions can be implemented.

GameSpy was never directly under any DDOS attack, and GameSpy backend was never out of comission, although some connectivity was for some users. We consider this an unacceptable level of service for both our users and by our ISP and this whole event lead to a series of discussions an a senior executive level both at GameSpy/IGN Entertainment’s end and Intelenet, our ISP partner in this, about our longer term options.

Any affected user is welcome to contact GameSpy’s Developer Support Manager directly at jschuur@gamespy.com if they continue to experience connectivity problems. Please include ping and traceroute (tracert in
Windows) information for master.gamespy.com along with a description of the in-game error and where it occurs.”

Yes, CoH: Opposing Fronts will be available for both DX10/Vista and DX9/XP…

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

http://theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=38798

We’ve asked the Inquirer to update their article. Here’s the actual update text:

“THQ got in touch to point out that while players will need Vista and DX10 “to enjoy some of the graphical improvements to the Essence engine, the game fully supports players using Windows XP and DX9 as well”. So you won’t have to run Vista to enjoy the title after all.”

My personal hero…

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

So guess who I met yesterday? Trevor Linden…. my hero for the past 16 years :)

I was at Vij’s restaurant with a friend when he sat down right beside us for dinner. I was freaking out the entire time and somehow managed to ambush him outside after and get him to sign my jersey (yes, the same jersey I am wearing all day every day). He offered to take a picture with me… and also, I am never showering again.

Official THQ Press Release

Exciting things…

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Expect a VERY cool announcement from me sometime this week on the blog… ^_^

Also, in other news… I’ve been getting a bit better at boarding but I’m still having a terrible time on the flat parts. Strangely enough, the steepness on harder runs doesn’t really bother me as much. Tomorrow I will be taking a vacation day and hitting up the local Cypress mountain. (Relic employees get free ski passes here). They’ve been closing at night but suddenly today they got a whole whack of snow (18cm!). Should be good grounds for practicing. I’ve really got to get in a LOT of practice before the season runs out if I’m going to be able to keep up with the Relic guys on the next Big White ski trip. I don’t want to be left alone on the bunny hills :(

This long weekend I’m planning on going to Mt. Baker in Washington for some more practice on the way to Seattle to visit and hang out with friends. Should be a great weekend and I’ll make it back on time for Easter dinner with the family on Sunday.

Some other cool news at Relic… we recently got 46″ plasmas installed in the office… 2 out in the 16th floor lobby, and then a few scattered around the office in the team areas. It’s actually really cool. They’ve made all the corner offices into team meeting areas, instead of having producers or higher-ups in them. They’ve put in couches, TVs, computers, gaming consoles into them… it’s great for testing out new games and for having team meetings. Much better atmosphere than before. Just another reason why Relic is soooo fun to work at ^_^

Edit: Here are some pictures from recent events :)

Gotta love the orca whale…. LOL… man, I can’t wait till they get a new logo/mascot next year…

After the game, me jumping outside of the Relic offices…. I got some good height! ^___^
