Guess what I just bought…

Yep… a 7′10″ Al Merrick hand-made longboard… MMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

I don’t know why, but I’m completely obsessed with surfing right now. (P.S. the pic below is from the deck of my new apartment!)

I also bought a housing for my digital SLR (Nikon D50) so I can use it underwater. Expect some sweet photos soon!

Wow I didn’t realize the surf was that big on the West Coast, all the power to ya.

You need to come down to Australia Buggo, lots of surfing to be had here. :)

Just don’t go to Newcastle, recent torrential rain has washed up a huge coal ship onto one of the beaches. :P

I call that (mini mal) a popout/moulded surfboard… not hand made. It might be shaped by a machine, but they surf well, although a little bumpy on bigger wind effected surf.

There be surf on Vancouver Island right?

Hint: Stick with this board for as long as you can. Most ’stupid’ people go for the short thrusters to learn on and get nowhere quick. 12 years back i started on a big board like this, now im busting moves on Wellington, NZ Breaker Bay reef. Look at wannasurf.com website, Breaker Bay is for Pros ;-)

Keep at it and if you have just started, don’t just jump straight to your feet, take your time figuring out your balance, go to your knees from the laying position first.
