Opposing Fronts Min Spec (Tentative)
Hey guys, a lot of people have asked about the minimum system requirements for the Opposing Fronts BETA, and I’ve got some rough estimates for you here. But keep in mind that for Opposing Fronts itself, the min spec will be a LOT lower after all the tweaking we do
Here’s a screenshot from a programmer’s computer who is working on the build

If you can’t see the above very well, click here for just the image.

I hope that the sound card check doesn’t require a physical sound card plugged into the motherboard, as most computers have sound built into the motherboard itself.
July 26th, 2007 at 4:33 pm
Nope. the only things that will actually “fail” the installer are SSE and Shader Model. I’ve got onboard sound as well and no problems there.
July 26th, 2007 at 4:45 pm
Well, I should be fine.
July 26th, 2007 at 5:15 pm
Good, I use onboard as well. The only thing is I haven’t gotten my key yet, but I’ll maintain patience
.

OMFG, 512 mb of ram is considered great for OF??!?!?! Does this mean that with my shitty 1gb integreated ATI Xpress gfx laptop, my computer will be able to run stuff on high thx to better program algorithm? omg this is godly thx for headsup. The news only seems to be getting better ^^
July 26th, 2007 at 5:58 pm
oh wait nvr mind thats VRAM oops…
July 26th, 2007 at 6:42 pm
As if use ugly on-board sound. Might as well slice off your ears.
Good to see my PC can handle the beta.
July 26th, 2007 at 6:48 pm
what if you fail one of the test? cant install?
July 26th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Only if you fail SSE or shader model will the install abort. the others will just warn you that your computer might not behave well for the beta.

Rofl. I posed a comment on your bloggo. I’m cool xD

This is great news! Opposing Fronts should run on my laptop, which means I’ll have something to play in college.
It just barely squeeks by, but it should run okay.

CPU SSE what is it? and it says recommended 3.0 ghz. does it support multithreading out of curiousity? I have a brand new 2.67 GHZ quad core, that going to do the trick or am i going to be turning stuff down? ( 2 x 8800 GTX in SLI i should be ok that part)
July 26th, 2007 at 11:05 pm
sbturvok, i dont knwo why u worry, you have brand new computer? you can probably run everything on high.
i wonder what cpu sse is aswell, i have older computer and i wonder if i have it. but i gues of cant be that difrent from coh and i can run that.
July 26th, 2007 at 11:19 pm
alright, after some googling i can say i have sse. yay. turns out its quite an old thing, made by intel back in 1999, so probabyl every pc after that suports it. so unless 1.9 cpu speed is problem, then ill be able to play of. its not a problem with coh, but this is beta afterall. well see

SSE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streaming_SIMD_Extensions) is included with Intel Pentium III and later processors, and with AMD Athlon XP and later processors. If you’re still not sure if you have SSE, a program like WCPUID (http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002374/src/download.html) can usually tell you: http://www.corsix.org/wcpuid.png

What about GFX? Any minimum req when it comes to that?
July 27th, 2007 at 4:21 am
256 mb of video memory is required, other than that you better have at least shader model 2.0. Google it if you don’t know what it is.
July 27th, 2007 at 7:00 pm
So…If i can run vanilla CoH I should be fine for CoH:OF?
July 27th, 2007 at 10:27 pm
To Andy?:
Yes. You should be fine for CoH:OF. the Minimum spec should not change. However the minimum spec for the beta is a bit higher as the code is not fully optimized
July 28th, 2007 at 5:03 am
Hahaha, why on earth are Relic using Ghz of a processor to determine whether that passes or is okay?
Most of the new processors no where near get near the recommended 3.0Ghz. Mine is only 2.40 because it is a flashy new core 2 duo.
Noting that of course its more efficient then a 3.0Ghz pentium 4, it will likely fail and be “okay” instead.
Rather arbitrary there, the other things are fine but that is a really odd one to have now.

Dear buggo
Your tool is crappy. The effective CPU speed says nothing about power of a CPU.
Nevertheless, I can play the game in high details, I think.
DualCore should be recomennded in the tool and be given “great” - also if the CPU speed (in MHz/GHz) is lower than the recomended spec. This is mostly for single core PCs.
July 29th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
Hey, Ajfax…..I hardly think its buggo’s tool.
Why should dual core be recommended. They want to run the beta on a wide spectrum of machines, this will give them a great beta test.
If they wanted to run it on all top of the line machines, they would say “anyone who has not bought their comp in the last 6 months, take a step back, we don’t want you here.”
