Solving Connectivity Problems

On our side, we’re working on patching Company of Heroes and Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts to improve connectivity.

But you can do some things as well to increase your chances of connecting to other players. Remember, Company of Heroes is a peer to peer game!

Some solutions:

1. Ensure that your anti-virus/security programs allow Company of Heroes to pass through the firewall.

2. Go to http://www.portforward.com and make sure that you have the port 6112 open. This is the port that allows you to connect to other players. Pick the guide that is specific to your router for instructions.

Thanks! In the meantime, we are incorporating your suggestions and working hard to improve connectivity from our end.

Been there, done that, doesn’t help. Posted my problems and warnings.log on forums, got no official response. Hope next patch solves connectivity issues or I’m outta beta, I’m a reasonable and patient man, but there simply is no point in wasting time trying to test something when I have to waste an hour just to manage getting into 1v1 game. 2v2 I cannot play do to lags. heh…

Why the hell do you use p2p anyway ?

I was hoping you’d change how you play online once you joined up with steam! I mean seriously, pings of 200+ on nearly every game I’ve played on coh is just rubbish. Any game with more than 4 people causes drops and I’ve got it all setup correct and I’m not using the beta.

As for the beta….i’m disappointed to say the least that you distribute it via a subscription service initially. Now i’ve patiently waited for the open beta it’s pulled on the same day!

Well done on making a good game, company of heroes is the best single player rts i’ve played in a while but sort out the online multiplayer and betas!

    funkay is right ….

I don’t suppose we could be told how many beta keys are going to released in each ‘wave’? And where they are going to be released, because I’ve missed 600 keys released on websites I never visit. Is there going to be a lot of keys released on fileplanet itself?

well this new patch seems to have solved 2v2 problems. finally

@ funkay - not being able to play larger than 2v2 games in CoH (not beta) is quite strange, i play those (3v3, 4v4) like 3-4 times per week and, apart from a drop here and there, have not been having any major issues

    @ Funkay:

I agree - Direct join should be an option in CoH, I have played Dawn of War a lot and is doesnt have the lag/drop issues that CoH has. Also the amount of times i cant play because the relic online server is down!!! that sux big stylee!

I have an ultra high spec pc with a 20mbit connection and CoH sucks on it

Not good (as funkay says - this has to be the best RTS in a long time shame this issue lets it down)

I’m glad to hear Relic is working on the connection issues, opening ports did not solve mine.

  8. samos Says:

opening ports didnt solve mine too ….

  9. samos Says:

there were already opening for vanilla coh ….

Some friends of mine, and myself, found out that updating our router’s firmware solved our connection issues!! As a bonus, the ‘red x’s of death’ have been reduced by approximately 30% in the hosted games list.

I hope this solution works for others!

Please Please Please allow a direct join option. Like the above poster said, I have much better performance doing that in DoW than using Relic Online with my friends.

vCoH works just fine for me, connectable in about 99% of the games I try to join.

In OF i can join about 10% of the games I try. Ports are forwarded and firewalls configured (it works in vCoh), so its definitly a OF issue :-)
